Managing Peripherals

v2.20.1

This page covers the operational actions for peripherals: enabling and disabling sensors, muting alarm notifications, toggling identification LEDs, and managing Modbus sensors.

Path: Devices → Peripherals

Enabling and disabling peripherals

A Disabled peripheral does not trigger alarms and does not appear in alarm views. Enable it to resume normal monitoring.

  1. Select one or more peripherals in the Peripherals grid.
  2. Click Enable or Disable in the toolbar.
  3. The status badge updates immediately.

Eligibility:

ActionAvailable when sensor status is
EnableDisabled
DisableEnabled, Silent, Unplugged, or Error

Muting and unmuting peripherals

A Silent peripheral continues to monitor and report readings but alarm notifications are suppressed. Use this during planned maintenance to avoid false alarms.

  1. Select one or more peripherals.
  2. Click Mute or Unmute in the toolbar.

Eligibility:

ActionAvailable when sensor status is
MuteEnabled or Error
UnmuteSilent

Toggling the identification LED

Each BUS device has a physical LED that can be switched on remotely to help locate the unit in a rack or enclosure.

  1. Select one or more peripherals hosted on a BUS device.
  2. Click the LED button in the toolbar.

All selected sensors must be Enabled and connected to a non-Modbus-RTU BUS device. The LED toggles on the BUS device(s) hosting the selected sensors.

Adding a Modbus peripheral

Only Modbus peripherals are added manually. Native SCC peripherals are discovered automatically when the controller comes online.

The Add button is shown only when at least one Modbus controller (IP or RTU) exists in the system.

1

Click Add

In the Peripherals toolbar, click the Add (+) button. The Add Peripheral dialog opens.

2

Configure the Modbus sensor

Fill in the Modbus address settings and general sensor details. See Peripheral Settings for a full field reference.

3

Save

Click Save. The sensor is added and begins reporting on the next polling cycle.

Deleting a Modbus peripheral

The Delete button is shown only when Modbus controllers exist in the system. Only Modbus peripherals can be deleted manually; native SCC peripherals are removed automatically when their host device is deleted.

  1. Select the Modbus peripheral in the grid.
  2. Click Delete in the toolbar and confirm.

Deletion is permanent

Deleting a peripheral removes all its configuration and history from Supracontrol. This cannot be undone.
