Managing Video Walls
Video Walls are created, edited, and deleted from the Video Wall tab. The same dialog is used for all three flows - what changes is the entry point and whether a wall already exists.
Creating a Video Wall
Open the Video Wall tab
Navigate to the Video section and click Video Wall in the tab pill buttons.
Click Add
Click the Add (+) button in the toolbar. The Create Video Wall dialog opens on the General tab.
Fill in name, layout, and cameras
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Must be unique across all your walls. Checked for exact-match duplicates |
| Description | No | Optional notes |
| Layout | Yes | Choose from 1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 13, 16, or 25 slots. Determines the maximum number of cameras |
| Cameras | Yes | Select cameras from the location tree. Camera count must be ≤ slot count to save |
Two ways to select cameras:
- Location tree - expand locations and tick cameras directly in the dialog
- Select from list - click the button to enter camera-selection mode in the Camera List (see Camera-selection mode below)
A warning label appears if you select more cameras than the layout can hold. The Save button is disabled until the camera count is within the layout limit.
Optional: configure sharing
Switch to the Share tab to change visibility:
- Private (default) - only you can see and manage this wall
- Public - share with specific users from the list
When set to Public, users whose business unit does not cover all the wall’s camera locations appear greyed out and cannot be added.
Save
Click Save. The wall is created and immediately becomes the active wall in the slot grid.
Camera-selection mode
When you click Select from list inside the Create or Edit Wall dialog, the application navigates to Camera List with the wall dialog’s context preserved. The page header switches to a selection banner:
Click camera cards to select
Click any camera card to add it to the selection. The counter in the banner shows selected / capacity. Once the capacity is reached, unselected cards are locked - you must deselect a camera before you can add another.
If the wall is set to Public and shared users have been added, only cameras in locations covered by all shared users’ business units are selectable.
Save or cancel
- Save - returns to the Video Wall tab and re-opens the wall dialog with the selected cameras applied
- Cancel - discards the selection and returns to the wall dialog with the original cameras
Editing a Video Wall
Select the wall
Use the filter drawer to select the wall you want to edit.
Click Edit wall
Click the Edit wall button in the toolbar. The Edit Wall dialog opens with the current settings pre-filled.
Make changes and save
Change the name, description, layout, cameras, or sharing, then click Save.
Reducing the layout clears all cameras
If you change to a smaller layout that has fewer slots than the number of cameras currently on the wall, all cameras are deselected and you must re-add them before saving.
Adding a camera to an empty slot
Click the + button on an empty slot
In the slot grid, click the green Add camera button in any empty slot. A simplified Add Camera dialog opens.
Pick a camera
Select one camera from the list. Only cameras not already on this wall are shown.
Save
Click Save. The camera fills the slot immediately.
Sharing a Video Wall
Open Edit wall and go to the Share tab
Select the wall, click Edit wall in the toolbar, then switch to the Share tab.
Set visibility to Public
Change the visibility dropdown from Private to Public. A user list appears.
Add users
Click Add to open the user picker. Users whose business unit does not cover all the wall’s camera locations are greyed out - they cannot be added because they would not be able to see all cameras in the wall.
Save
Click Save. Added users can now see the wall in their wall picker. They can view the wall but cannot edit or delete it.
Reordering cameras by drag-and-drop
Drag any filled camera card and drop it onto another slot. The two cards swap positions immediately - no confirmation is required and the change is saved automatically via the API.
Deleting a Video Wall
Deletion is permanent
Deleting a wall removes it for all users it was shared with. Camera streams and recordings on the video server are not affected.
Select the wall
Use the filter drawer to select the wall you want to delete.
Click Delete wall
Click the Delete wall button in the toolbar. A confirmation dialog appears.
Confirm
Click Delete to confirm. The wall is removed and the previous wall in the list becomes the active wall.
